Health update: Cipro for a few more days and most of my symptoms have resolved. Just feeling exhausted from the insane amount of work we're doing. And one of my group members was just diagnosed with malaria so we're down a worker bee. Another friend, who shall remain nameless, has amoebiosis, so we're dropping like flies at Kilimanjaro Base Camp. We're keeping the health clinic in Kimana busy! And when my friends went to see the doctor yesterday he asked them, "How is the Meena?" haha, that's for you Mike and Peg!
Also, I wanted to let you know about the racial identity confusion I've experienced from going out in the field. Here's a sample conversation:
Kenyan: Are you black American?
Me: No, I'm half Indian, half Filipino.
Kenyan: Then why are you black?
Then, my friend Sabiha, who is half Indian and half black American, walked up to the car and the same Kenyan asked me, "Is that your sister?"
Another time, I was partnered with a blonde classmate and one of the Maasai women asked the translator, "Why do they have different hair if they're both white?"
So, the question remains, what am I? hahaha
Ok, back to work for now, Pray that I don't lose my mind.
