My First Visitor!

So, did you guys guess that Shelley was my first visitor? Everyone should know by now that Shelley is the best friend a girl could ask for. This was her THIRD visit to Boston this year!! She came with me in June (along with my other bestie Karen) to look for a place to live, and then she helped me with the big move in the beginning on August. I asked her to look into commuting from Boston to Richmond for work and I'm hoping she'll take this request seriously. She arrived last Friday and we packed a lot of fun and snuggles (and, um, maybe a few delicious things) into the weekend. We headed to lunch first at Zaftig's, a popular Jewish deli here in Brookline before heading out for a little shopping on Newbury Street. I can't seem to walk down Newbury without stopping in Filene's Basement for some name brand bargain hunting. I somehow only spent $30 so thanks Uncle Sam for the sweater and black top. We had Thai food for dinner at Chilli Duck on Boylston Street before heading to a school mixer at Lir. I was glad to have the chance to introduce Shelley to my new friends.  Everyone already knew about her since she's in most of my life's memories ;) Here's a photo of us with my friend Sabiha.

The next day we hit the town running! Our first stop was Dunkin Donuts, a Boston institution. People seriously love it here. Now, I'm a Krispy Kreme kinda girl but Dunkin Donuts is slowly winning me over. We had to start the day appropriately with Boston Creme filled donuts before heading to the North End. The Saturday farmer's market was going on so we wandered through there a bit before heading to Faneuil Hall where we watched some street performers and did some good people watching. We walked along the Harbor and relaxed in the sun and cool breeze, it's definitely feeling like fall here.

We had some Italian for lunch in the North End then picked up some cannoli at the famous bakery, Mike's Pastry. I've seen lines out the door at this place but luckily our wait wasn't too bad, especially now that I've learned how to shove through crowds to the front of lines like rude city folk...I'm only kidding a little about that. No worries, Mom, I was polite! We then headed to the Public Garden and Boston Common to enjoy more fun in the sun. There was a music festival going on so it was extremely crowded but also a feast for professional people watchers like us. We ate our cannoli in the park and then walked by the State House and around Beacon Hill where we admired the homes that old Boston money can buy. Our next stop was Cambridge where we met up with my dear friend Nora (aka Boston Shelley = Belley?) and then had dinner at Grafton Street in Harvard Square. It was an action packed and calorie filled day, just as I like it!

Sunday was sad because Shelley left...but we'll reunite in a few weeks when I come home for a long weekend. It was a great visit and any time we're together you can bet there will be some belly laughs! I felt a little homesick for my friends and family after Shelley left because her visit was a reminder of all the lovely people in my life who I wish I could see more. Visitors are always welcome, I promise you won't go hungry here :)

Ok I have class bright and early in the morning so that's all for now. Have a happy weekend!
