I have never felt as restless as today. We've dealt with some bad weather the past few weeks, but nothing like Typhoon Ondoy. It's been raining nonstop since last night, the streets are flooded (supposedly the worst flooding in 100 years) and we've been stuck inside all day with only our computers to entertain us.

So far we've caught up on Project Runway and the Office, watched the Hangover (bootleg, obvi) and played poker using stale cashews as chips. Our big concern is our early flight tomorrow to
Bohol, since I don't think any planes are departing Manila anytime soon. We had hoped to celebrate Diana's birthday with some
tarsiers, so crossing our fingers that this storm will clear asap. If our plans go through, we'll be in Bohol til Tuesday then Wednesday we leave for Palawan, to help with a malaria research project. Remember the last research project we helped with? Yeah, I haven't forgotten either, so I'm sure we'll be up close and personal with some mosquitoes.
We might try to venture out for Diana's birthday dinner, and I'm really missing my Hunter wellies right now as they sit in an attic in Massachusetts. The flooding is pretty heinous, and I hate to think about what kind of nasties are swimming around in there. When the streets flood, people build makeshift bridges that you have to pay a few pesos to cross-very enterprising, n'est-ce pas?
On a brighter note, Nora and I finalized our internships at the
World Health Organization! There's a regional office based here in Manila and we'll be working in the Emergency and Humanitarian Action unit. I'm pretty pumped about it and they've got lots of work lined up for us, so it'll be a big change from our "ladies who lunch" days. Oh, and one of our bosses lives in our building so that should keep us on our toes.
And my last important update, I met Optimus Prime at the mall the other day. Only in Manila.

We were watching the National news tonight and saw the horrible flooding in Manila, and I yelled "That's where Meena is!" Of course the only person to hear me yell was Tom who was sitting right next to me, but the point was that I was worried about you. I hope that you are okay and that I don't see you on the news anytime soon. Love you!
