My childhood memories involve many cross country moves--California to New York to Georgia to New Mexico to Virginia (all in my first 13 years!). I have no clue how my dear mom and dad packed up the whole family and all of our belongings to relocate across such great distances. I have a new respect for them after organizing my comparably small amount of belongings to move to Boston. Luckily, Shelley offered her co-pilot services to help me with the long drive north.
We split up the drive with a stop in Philadelphia to visit my college roommate Kim and her hubby Tom (side note: this couple is one of my great accomplishments in life--I set them up when my friend Jeff and I decided we should play match maker with our short roommates--they have been married for almost 3 years now!) We stuffed the Honda to capacity and hit the road with a Ukrop's survival kit of white house rolls, rainbow cookies, butterstar cookies, brownie bites, and donut holes (after already consuming breakfast pizza...don't judge us). Shelley also brought along some pink lady apples (my fave) and bananas to offset the junk food factor but we ended up forgetting them in Philly--oh well!

"Shelley is driving it like she stole it cuz she gotta top some g's tmw. Just co-chillin' in my whip, rollin' on dubs, spending dat scrilla, throwin' bows in the dirty jerz. Boston was off the heezy, might hustle a Nutra Sweet daddy up there. I'm chunkin' tha deuce to Massey, hold it down homeskillet."

I'd translate it for you if I knew what it meant.
Anyhow, Shelley drove us into Boston and when we pulled up in front of my building I sort of squealed and panicked at the same moment, I couldn't believe I was there and moving into my new home! ACK! But, it was the most painless move you could imagine... We found a parking spot right in front and my roommates came down to help us carry everything. It literally took 15 minutes. That left us plenty of time to explore my new neighborhood! We ate crepes for dinner and wandered around Brookline. It's a charming and slower paced town but still close to the heart of Boston. I think I really lucked out with my new place, I can't wait to settle in at the end of the month.
The drive home was more fun than you'd expect an 11 hour drive in one day to be...thanks to Urban Dictionary and two stops at Cracker Barrel for a late breakfast in Connecticut and an early dinner in Virginia. I need to get my fill of sweet tea and biscuits while I can!

Ok that was probably more detail than you needed to know about my trip...I'll try to do some editing next time around :)
Tomorrow is my last day in Richmond and then Roy and I are heading west for his big move! Hope to update this a bit from the road...pray that we don't strangle each other before reaching CA!

It was an awesome visit with Kimmy and the Tominator. We ate well and had great belly laughing conversation as we recalled our finest moments in college. We visited their little nugget Evie in the NICU and I was amazed by all the progress she's made since my last visit. She is a tiny miracle and I can't wait til they can bring her home, she'll be taking over in no time! I think Tom should forget that whole chemical engineering business and open a bed and breakfast, he and Kim are such warm and generous hosts. I'm lucky to have such kind friends.

Sunday we hit the road towards our final destination. Highlights included stops at several service areas on the NJ Turnpike, Shelley's first time driving with the yankees, and learning lots of important vocabulary in the Urban Dictionary. This was a present from Jen, my favorite coworker over the past 5 years, who also happens to be fluent in street slang. Here is a text message we composed for her. It took about an hour to write because we don't have mad street cred, yo."Shelley is driving it like she stole it cuz she gotta top some g's tmw. Holla!! I'm glad you dug my gift! Hope your trip to Cali is off da chain!
I was horrified to read that I was not your favorite co-worker. The truth hurts. Or, in suburban speak, SAY WHAT?!
