1. worked as a teaching assistant for my favorite professor, in my favorite class "Managing Complex Humanitarian Emergencies". It was quite timely with the Haiti earthquake and made me restless to head abroad again...
2. According to my excel spreadsheet, applied to 82 jobs and counting. the only ones I hear back from I don't actually want. good thing i'm living off the generosity of others!
3. went to Richmond. This involved Ukrops, Edo's, NY Deli, Hill Cafe, my lovely JRHS ladies and a visit to the Main St polar bear. My portalian came to visit as well because he loves Richmond and wants to move there one day.
4. slow cooking- my new favorite thing. The secret is you don't actually have to cook, you just throw it all in there and BAM, chicken tortilla soup!
5. watching Ellen. I like her better than Oprah, there, I said it! I wanted to see her show while I'm here in CA but didn't happen. maybe on my next unemployment visit.
6. watching the Olympics. I'm such a sucker for that triumph in the face of adversity business. And I'd love to go back to Vancouver and see what's changed since my last visit- World Expo 1986!
7. California- mom and dad are taking good care of me as always. So is my little bro, who finally got me to the Kogi taco truck. We waited in line for two hours (starting at 10:30pm!) and it was totally worth it. I ate 4 tacos (chicken, spicy pork, tofu, and short rib) and a slider and wished I had ordered more. Nora, how do you say "pig" in Korean?
8. I also made it to Roscoe's Chicken and Waffles and was a tad disappointed. We went to the Hollywood location and I didn't see Flava Flav OR Snoop Dogg, WTH?! There's no four step ordering process like at the Hen House and the waffle tasted Eggo-like. Hen House, you are my one and only. See you at 2am this weekend.
9. UBurger > In-N-Out> Five Guys.
10. I should probably round out this list with something non food like. I went to the Getty and saw an exhibit on distinguishing between the work of Rembrandt and his pupils. He taught them all to draw in his style and the similarities are striking and the differences are so slight to the untrained eye. Very worthwhile.
I'm taking this unemployment show back on the road....quick weekend in Boston (seeing the Lion King!), then Philly, RVA, maybe Bed Bath and Beyond if there's time...
